Taken from the American Burn Association’s Burn Center Referral Criteria:

  1. Partial thickness burns >10% TBSA
  2. Burns involving face, hands, feet, genitalia, perineum, or major joints
  3. Third degree burns (whitish, charred or translucent, no pin prick sensation in burned area)
  4. Electrical burns including lightning injury
  5. Chemical burns
  6. Inhalation injury
  7. Pre-existing conditions that may complicate management, prolong recovery, or affect mortality
  8. Burns and concomitant trauma in which burn poses greatest risk of morbidity or mortality
  9. Child patient at a hospital without qualified personnel or equipment
  10. Patient requiring social, emotional, or rehabilitative intervention
  11. Sinai PGY4’s status-post roast by PGY3’s at Senior Night
