Stuart Kessler, MD, Professor of Emergency Medicine, serves as a Vice Chair in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai, the Deputy CMO for Emergency Services at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and the Director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst.

Dr. Kessler joined Mount Sinai in 1995, and has been a committed leader in building clinical and academic training programs across Emergency Medicine. Growing the partnership with NYC Health + Hospitals, Dr. Kessler oversees the integration of the MSH/Elmhurst Residency program, and the Emergency Medicine Faculty at both the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments at Elmhurst. He fosters a collaborative culture with the Emergency Medicine Divisions. His current interests include Workplace Violence Prevention, Resident Education, and Emergency Medicine Practice Management.

Within NYC Health + Hospitals, Dr. Kessler currently serves as one of the two clinical leads for Emergency Medicine and a Co-Chair of the Trauma Council. He served as the President of the Medical Executive Committee and Chair of the Bylaws committee at Elmhurst.

Nationally, Dr. Kessler is a New York ACEP Representative to the Medical Society for the State of New York House of Delegates. Dr. Kessler represents NYACEP as an elected councilor at the ACEP national council meetings. He has served as an elected board member for New York ACEP and on the national ACEP Practice Management Committee.

In 2020, Dr. Kessler received the Crain’s Notable in Healthcare Award. He has received the Physician of the Year Award from Elmhurst and the NYACEP Outstanding Contribution to Emergency Medicine. Dr. Kessler specializes in defending physicians as an expert reviewer and was recently made an NYPD Honorary Police Surgeon. In his free time, he enjoys tennis, softball, getting to the gym and supporting the Yankees and Knicks.
