Courtney Chan, MD is a resident at the Mount Sinai and Elmhurst Hospital Emergency Medicine Residency Program. She earned her medical degree from UMass Medical School, where she was part of the Population-based Urban and Rural Community Health (PURCH) Program, a track focused on health equity and care for underserved populations. During medical school, she co-led the Global Health Pathway and volunteered with the Worcester Asylum Clinic, coordinating forensic medical evaluations for asylum seekers across Central and Western Massachusetts.

Dr. Chan completed her undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis, where she earned a B.A. in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology. During this time, she developed an interest in global health through research and fieldwork, including spending time in rural Switzerland studying health policy and international humanitarian response. Prior to medical school, she worked at Tufts Medical Center as an Infection Prevention and scribe, contributing to several studies examining racial and ethnic disparities during COVID-19. She is passionate about improving access to care for refugees, trauma survivors, and non-English-speaking patients, and hopes to continue combining clinical work with systems-level advocacy in Emergency Medicine.
