Amina received her BS in Political Science from Williams College. After graduating, she joined Teach for America working to counter social and economic disadvantages in CT, the state with the widest achievement gap in the nation. She continued teaching for an additional 3 years in NYC charter schools after fulfilling her commitment with TFA. Amina received her received her doctorate in medicine from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Her research as a medical student has involved health equity research, social determinants of health and medical education. As a medical student, she participated in community health outreach through community health fairs and as a teaching senior for Mount Sinai’s student-run, physician-supervised free clinic providing both primary and ophthalmic care to uninsured adults in East Harlem. While Amina maintains a diverse background, a recurrent theme is her desire to facilitate awareness of social and economic contributors to health disparity.
