Division of Research

The Research Division of the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai performs rigorous, innovative, and collaborative research. We use knowledge creation and scientific discovery to transform health care. Our goal is always to improve the health of patients.

Our mission is to provide research training for all learners, and continuous professional growth and development for research faculty and staff members of the Department of Emergency Medicine, system-wide. Likewise, we strive to promote integrated scholarly inquiry, research productivity, and acquisition of internal and external funding to support departmental research and training activities.  We are committed to conducting impactful research in an environment characterized by collegiality, respect, and equity.

During their PGY-2 year, residents have the opportunity to explore their research interests under the mentorship of research faculty. Residents are encouraged to continue to develop their interests in the form of electives during their PGY-3 and PGY-4 years. Many residents go on to present their research at national conferences or even successfully apply for research grants.
