Born Berkeley CA to non-hippie parents just after the height of the hippie movement. Grew up in Western MA where no one knew the hippie movement had ended, then undergrad at Brown (economics). Next came stints in Puerto Rico (substitute teaching), Appalachia (volunteering and some serious cultural exchange), Boston (health policy job), and Palo Alto (brief blip in economics grad school) before finally getting to med school at Cornell then residency and research/health policy fellowship at Sinai. Seem to be tethered here since.
