The residency is sponsoring a happy hour this coming Tuesday at the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden in Astoria . For those of you who aren’t familiar, this place is a NYC landmark because it has the last original beer garden in all of NYC and was voted best outdoor bar by New York Citysearch (in 2005 — but it’s still highly ranked). It’s just a couple minutes walk from the N train. All residents, faculty and med students rotating in the ED this month are invited.
Date: Tuesday, August 26
Time: 7:00PM
Location: 29-19 24th Ave, Astoria
Directions by subway: Take the N to Astoria Blvd. (one stop before the last - Ditmars Blvd.). Walk 1 block to the intersection of 24th Avenue and 31st Street. The beer garden is located between 29th Street and 31st Street.
Dr. Wang adds: During the summers they have an outdoor grill - grilling up all sorts of sausages and stuff that would be expected at a German joint. Only a handful of beers on tap, but very much in the traditional German Pilsner style.

There’s lots of new and good stuff under the “Blog” tab above — some post-conference and post-sim discussion points, and recent journal club recaps (on d-dimer for dissection, and clevidipine for HTN — thanks, Marisa!). I’ve also posted a summary, with links, to much of Dr. Hollander’s lecture on NSTEMI risk stratification, and ED management of ACS. He said plenty of insightful things but I know many of you had questions — check it out.
Also our Grand Rounds library has grown to three lectures — give it a listen (mp3’s are available under the “Conference” tab).

Please join us for Simulation Sessions this Wednesday morning, July 30, at Mount Sinai.
Half the residency will participate in Sim sessions from 9 am to noon, and the other half will be involved from noon to 3 PM. Please see my email(s) about specific group assignments. The overview is below:
- – Group A (Mostly Interns) — Peds Sim at 9 AM in the ED Conference Room, Adult Sim at 10:30 AM in Hatch
- – Group B (Mostly PGY-3) — Adult Sim at 9 AM in Hatch, Peds Sim at 10:30 AM in ED Conference Room
- – Group C (Mostly seniors) — Peds at Noon in the ED Conference Room , Adult Sim at 1:30 PM in Hatch
- – Group D (Mostly PGY-2) — Adult Sim at Noon in Hatch, Peds Sim at 1:30 PM in the ED Conference Room
